I took on my first ever Swim challenge!!

In November I signed up to the Swim10Miles challenge in aid of Mater Hospital patient care. The target of swimming 10 miles in 1 month seemed a bit out of reach as I was only swimming a couple of days a week and usually for less than a 1/2 mile. At that rate I would me way more than a month to complete it!

However it’s amazing what you can do when you have a goal and are part of a wonderful group of like minded people who all love to swim.  We each swam at our own pace and encouraged each other along the way. I was sick towards the end of November but found it great to have a reason to get back to it and I have to say I enjoyed every minute of it finishing my 10 mile challenge in early December.

It was such a pleasure being able to go downstairs to swim in my own heated pool whenever suited me, when others had to drive to their local pools and face traffic then changing room politics as well as swimlane log-jams! My own private pool was such bliss!

I might not look as elegant as many swimmers with my bum in the air, but swimming with my head down using a snorkel & mask has really helped my neck & shoulders and even helped me avoid surgery. And best of all I raised money for a great cause and discovered I could swim further & longer than I thought possible!
